Tallahassee, Fla. (FDACS) – Commissioner Nicole “Nikki” Fried joined key Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services officials to host the third public hemp rulemaking workshop at the R.A. Gray Building in Tallahassee. Today’s workshop was the third and final in a series of three events which took place in South, Central, and North Florida designed to ensure anyone interested in learning more or getting involved with the coming state hemp program had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

“We want Florida’s coming state hemp program to be as inclusive as possible. My vision is a partnership between growers, processors, manufacturers, and all stakeholders that allows everyone a chance to get involved in this new green economy,” shared Commissioner Nikki Fried. “With over 25,000 uses from environmentally-conscious alternatives to plastic and Styrofoam, to industrial building materials and cosmetics, to CBD and food additives, hemp will usher in an industrial revolution in Florida and across the country.”

During the workshop, senior Department officials held a series of presentations on the newly-released draft rules for the state hemp program. The Department will take public feedback into account while finalizing the proposed framework. Commissioner Fried was present at all three events encouraging public input as the Department continues work on the draft rules for the coming state hemp program.

The Department of Agriculture maintains a regularly-updated section on its website to provide information on cannabis and the new state hemp program. Floridians are encouraged to visit FreshFromFlorida.com/Cannabis for hemp and cannabis updates, or email Cannabis@FreshFromFlorida.com with any questions.
