The deadline to submit an application for the Alabama Agriculture Relief Program (AARP) is Friday, June 25.
The AARP provides USDA relief funds to growers who suffered losses due to Hurricane Michael. AARP will provide funds for necessary expenses related to the losses of pecans, horticulture crops and uninsured infrastructure damage related to the hurricane’s fallout when it impacted the Southeast in 2018.
Eligible Alabama counties include Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Escambia, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Pike, Montgomery and Russell.
For pecan producers, they must have suffered damaged or destroyed pecan trees that required removal and replanting. A producer must show a minimum of 15% production loss to qualify.
For horticulture crops, including bare-ground losses, eligible farmers must show a minimum of 15% crop loss to qualify for reimbursement on damaged acres and must have had an adverse impact on bare-ground horticulture practices.
With losses to uninsured infrastructure, eligible producers must show a 15% loss of a commodity housed inside farming infrastructure due to Hurricane Michael. Structures must have had commodities present at the time of the hurricane.
