The blueberry festival has become a staple event for the Florida blueberry industry. Growers from around the state support the event through sponsorships, volunteering and attending the festival.
Teddy Koukoulis, grower and director of blueberry operations for Wish Farms, says the benefits the festival has on the blueberry industry are very tangible. He says the festival“brings awareness to the community, blueberry eaters, and even those that do not eat blueberries.”
According to Koukoulis, festival attendees are given plenty of opportunities to taste test different blueberry varieties. Many people have their first experience eating fresh blueberries while attending the festival. “It’s a growing event. Every year it gets bigger and bigger,” he says.
Admission for adults is $10.00. Children ages 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online.
The event also includes live musical entertainment, a kid’s zone and artisans.
“The festival is a fun way to get our message out. People from all walks of life attend. The festival has its place in the Florida blueberry industry,” says Koukoulis.
